This theme focuses on economic progression through the expansion and modernization of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure and the provision of reliable and current fundamental geospatial datasets (data associated with location) as base for cohesive planning for national development; to increase access and value addition through provision of geospatial datasets to the public, OMAs and international development partners.
International Boundary Re-Affirmation
After African states attained their independence, poorly delimitated and/or demarcated borders became potential sources of conflict and political instability, prompting the African Heads of Governments (AHG) to enact resolution AHG/Res.16(1) at the Organization of African Union (OAU) on the principle of respect of borders existing at the time of independence. This theme thus focuses on Namibia’s resolve to re-affirm its boundaries with her neighbors in fulfilment of the aforesaid resolution.
Blue Economy Expansion
Article 76 para. 1 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) establishes the right of coastal States to determine the outer limits of the Continental Shelf beyond the default 200 nautical miles.
This theme focuses on Namibia’s quest of expanding its blue economy (sea-bed and subsoil resources).
